Description
Sailing the blue waters off the coast of Hawaii’s island of Moloka’i is a great way to see the island’s beautiful red volcanic hills. As that red soil meets the blue ocean it imparts its color and minerals to create the famous Hawaiian red sea salt. The red alaea clay from the ancient mountains combine with the sea to give the local salt a complex, almost sweet taste all its own.
The native Hawaiians use the salt in many of their traditional ceremonial dishes for its unique flavor as well as its deep connection to their islands. We always loved the taste the salt gives to roasted pork dishes and started experimenting with it to arrive at our newest creation: Hawaiian Red Sea Salt Wine Chips. Try some and we think you will agree that the taste combination is amazingly complex and interesting, especially when paired with a with a chilled Chardonnay or any fruity, crisp white wine!
